Essential forms and tendencies with respect to the implementation of representational strivings at architectural competitions

Abstract

Due to its exclusive nature, representational architecture is often perceived as the most important, outstanding and suggestive part of the image of one or another era. In the general architectural spectrum, such edifices make up only a small part, whereas creative competitions offer an opposite situation, i.e. representational strivings designate a frequent, usual and reasoned form of the course. By acknowledging the importance of representational architecture, the same meaning shall be assigned to the competitions designed for architecture and analysis thereof. The article focuses on essential issues with respect to the traditions and substantial features of representational strivings at creative competitions. Referring to the particular examples of foreign and Lithuanian architectural competitions, the fundamental typological groups of representational edifices as well as tendencies towards development are defined. On the basis of the carried-out survey and comparison with foreign competitions, efforts are made to delineate the distinguishing qualities of Lithuanian representational architecture within the recent century determining the problems.

Esminės reprezentacinių siekių įgyvendinimo architektūros konkursuose formos ir tendencijos

Santrauka. Reprezentacinė architektūra dėl savo išskirtinio pobūdžio dažnai suvokiama kaip pati svarbiausia, iškiliausia ir įtaigiausia vienos ar kitos epochos įvaizdžio dalis. Bendrajame architektūros kontekste tokie objektai sudaro tik nedidelę jo dalį, o kūrybiniuose konkursuose, atvirkščiai, reprezentaciniai siekiai yra dažna, įprastinė ir motyvuota jų vyksmo forma. Pripažindami reprezentacinės architektūros svarbą lygiai tokią pačią reikšmę turime suteikti jai skirtiems konkursams ir jų analizei. Straipsnyje nagrinėjami esminiai reprezentacinių siekių kūrybiniuose konkursuose tradicijų, esminių požymių klausimai. Konkrečių užsienio ir Lietuvos architektūros konkursų pavyzdžiu išskiriamos esminės reprezentacinių objektų tipologinės grupės, jų raidos tendencijos. Remiantis atlikta apžvalga ir palyginimu su užsienio konkursais siekiama apibrėžti Lietuvos reprezentacinės architektūros ypatumus paskutinį šimtmetį, nustatyti problemas.
